I am English born, currently living and working in Eastern Germany. Both myself and my husband moved here for work a few years ago and we find ourselves feeling really at home..
I have always had a weak spot for vintage - be it clothing, furniture or design. As a child I would sit in front of my Grandma's glass fronted dresser and carefully pull out the individual ornaments, look at them for the 100th time and then place them gently back in their spot. As a teenager I would buy my clothing from second hand charity shops and adjust/refit it the best way I could with the help of a fantastic seamstress in my mum (who made many of our clothes as children as well as her own wedding dress and four bridesmaid dresses!).
Before moving to Germany we would visit car boot fairs, something which my husband had always done as a child, but having spent most of my childhood in a rural village, not something I ever really had the chance to do. I loved it. My brother and I would have the table-by-table strategy, in comparison to the 'march and spot the bargain' approach of my husband, Tom. Living in Northern England meant Victorian houses and interiors. I felt that I knew what to look for... and then we moved to Germany!
Since moving here I've really had the chance to start from scratch and it has been a really exciting experience. Learning what to put in a totally white room. Learning not to clutter, how to showcase vintage pieces...We live in a 1900s building but the interior is pristine and newly renovated and I love it. Bauhaus and mid-certury design are my starting points and really love anything Danish, Finnish or Swedish. I have developed a real love for ultra-modern architecture that you see a lot more of here in Germany, clean lines and simple, minimalist approaches - a Bauhaus style home would be my dream.
I have found myself with a bit more time on my hands than back at home - hence this blog. I've been reading and enjoying other people's blogs for some time and love the thought of connecting with like-minded people across the globe. I would like to share some of the lovely items we collect for our home (plus a few recipes that I will be trying out). I hope you enjoy them and that they inspire you as much as they do me.
Lastly, I've also started pottery - all without a wheel (the workshop is too small for them) and would love to know what you think of some of my creations.
Thanks for reading. I hope to connect with you soon... Bryony
